Blogger Beta
Blogger are trying to trick Yaxlich into changing his blog. Whenever he logs in to Blogger, it keeps telling him "Change to Blogger Beta, Yaxlich. You'll love it" but he doesn't know if he wants to. Yaxlich doesn't like change. Has anyone else moved to Blogger Beta? |
Comments on "Blogger Beta"
I'm using Blogger Beta. I haven't had any problems with it so far.
Did Lizza have to back things up first or did she just click "OK..you've got me..enough of the pop up windows..I'll sign up, Godammit"?
I advise Yaxlich to back up his template, just to make sure: copy and paste it onto notepad. I didn't have any trouble making the transition. Good luck!
I changed to Beta and friggin hated it...but I've has got used to it now. Yes back up your entire blog - even though they do give you that option when you change, do it yourself onto your hard drive...the signing in twice sucks but I don't think you can avoid it forever.
And you can also keep your current template by choosing the classic template option. Otherwise it looks like shit.
It seems to Yaxlich that you need to sign up to be a Google member or something to use Beta.
He is not sure he wants to do this. Google are becoming Big Brother...
Incidentally, Yaxlich prefers Blogger Classic rather than Blogger Alpha.
Yaxlich is not the only Blogger who feels Google is Big Brother and refuses to sign up. You're in good company. (Not mine though - I capitulated - but am looking at other blog platforms.)
Capitulate. A sadly under used word these days. Like piffle.
Tish set up her Tishette's new train blog under the new blogger and found that the ease of use (especially for novices and children) is great, but as a web developer it took away some of the configurability Tish likes to employ in her sites. Just silly little things. Tish won't be changing any time soon. If the Blogger Gods make her change, she will buy another domain name and some hosting and go back to using Wordpress installed on her own site.
Yaxlich has heard that WordPress rocks.
He thinks he may well move soon.
Just switched 3 days ago, after being similarly harangue to Change to the Dark Side.
The change gas been good. Labels are a nice thing. Entry compilation is very fast. Leaving comments is a bit trickier, but then m aybe that's good; makes one think a little more before emoting.
I'd say, go for it. At least you won;t be harassed any longer.
Yaxlich says hello to Darkov and thanks him for making a very valid point about commenting. Yaxlich has been guilty of leaving comments on blogs at silly o'clock having consumed too many cans of shandy Bass. Perhaps this is what Blogger thought when they released Blogger Beta.
Not only do you have to have a google mail account but you have to have a cell phone to get a google invite number. I have the notice to change but I can't even if I wanted to because I don't have a cell and therefore no google mail. Pfff.
Yaxlich doesn't like the sound of that at all. It sounds like a book by George Orwell where everyone was being spied on by talking pigs who were living in Paris.
You do not need a cell phone number to switch to Blogger Beta. You only have to set up a Google/Blogger Beta ID.
Yaxlich says hello to la gringa. He thinks this is the first person from Honduras to leave a comment. He is also pleased to hear that you do not need to leave your cell phone number. He might create a blog soon in Beta and see how it works.
Made the change. Quite like it, it seems a lot faster... I tried to update my template and blogger beta wouldn't have it, said it was all over the place, which it is, had a bit of a panic and got the old one back, sigh of relief. Yes, you have to have a google account and if you have two google accounts you have to keep logging in and out, because it will only let you sign in to one at a time, even if you are sending emails with one and want to post using the other - frustrating. Another thing to watch is 3rd party software - flickr works ok, but programmes like Ecto don't work yet.
Have not made the change. I've heard that people lose links and such. I'm afraid I will lose all the peace globes. Still thinking about the switch.....
I went back to try the beta blogger again and it isn't there now! I guess they changed their mind about me. Whatever!
And I just went to gmail to see if I could get it and this is what it says.
2. How do I sign up?
You can get a Gmail account if you're invited by someone who already has one. Or, you can sign up for an account using your mobile phone.
It all sounds very confusing to Yaxlich. He thinks he will wait until he's told that he HAS to upgrade.
Hello yaxlich. Thank you for the welcome. La Gringa is honored to be your first Honduran.
I'm sure you would have more Honduran visitors except most of them speak Spanish and don't have internet or computers because we are the second poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. Our government is working very hard to overcome Haiti and make to the #1 spot.
I'm going to see if you have an email address on your blog and send you a GMail invitation so you can move to Blogger Beta. I like it and I think you will, too.
That's one thing we do have in Honduras, besides rice and beans: GMail invitations.
Yaxlich thanks La Gringa for the kind invitation and will certainly look a lot closer at Blogger Beta.
Hmmm, La Gringa was expecting something wittier in response from Yaxlich, given that La Gringa's comment was so witty.
La Gringa did indeed leave a witty comment which made Yaxlich chuckle. Sadly he was feeling very tired and not in the slightest bit witty when he responded. He will try better in future.
Incidentally Yaxlich would also be happy to receive rice and beans from La Gringa whenever they have any spare. He likes rice and beans.
While La Gringa would be more than happy to send Yaxlich rice and beans, and bananas for that matter, La Gringa thinks the EU prevents her from doing that. EU has been very mean to Honduras.
Perhaps Yaxlich could send La Gringa something instead?
The EU has been equally mean to Yaxlich which is why he is currently unemployed.
Well, now, that's not funny, is it?
Poor Yaxlich.
